Modern Home Built Around 200-Year-Old Cottage Outside Sydney Lists for A$3.5 Million
A 200-year-old cottage outside of Sydney that has been reimagined as a modern home was listed this week for A$3.5 million (US$2.4 million). Historically known as Adey Estate, the home is in the suburb of Castle Hill, and was likely a farm or orchard in the past. The design combined elements of the stone cottage with modern architecture. It now boasts five bedrooms, a billiards room, a cave bar and a three-car garage. “It’s got a real wow-factor to it; there’s an awesome cellar under the house and it’s perfect for buyers looking to entertain their guests,” said Steve Ford of LJ Hooker Dural. realestate.com.au
Short List for Architecture’s Stirling Prize Announced
Two “ambitious” housing developments have been shortlisted for the 2022 Stirling Prize, awarded by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). Six projects made the list for the annual prize, including Orchard Gardens by Panter Hudspith Architects, a 228-unit build, and the Hackney New Primary School and 333 Kingsland Road by Henley Halebrown, which combines a 350-pupil primary school with an apartment building. Both are located in London. “As we grapple with housing, energy and climate crises, these six projects give cause for optimism, each offering innovative solutions to the challenges of today and the future,” said RIBA president Simon Allford. Prices for Private Homes in Singapore Rose 3.5% in the Second Quarter, but Headwinds Are on the Horizon
Private home prices in Singapore were up 3.5% in the second quarter, a 0.7% increase compared to the first three months of the year, according to the country’s Urban Redevelopment Authority. Some buyers are likely looking to secure mortgage rates ahead of further hikes, according to Tricia Song, CBRE’s head of research for Southeast Asia. Inventory issues have also created a bump in prices, but that may end as more projects come online. The Straits Times
