One in Five Londoners Plans to Downsize to Fund Retirement

For some Londoners, pensions will need to be buffed by a property switch. According to financial services provider Hargreaves Lansdown, one in five residents of the English capital are planning on downsizing their home to aid in funding their retirement—by comparison, just one in 10 Scots have a similar plan. While the idea of downsizing may seem like a solid plan for many reaching retirement age—especially in light of the rising cost of living—Hargreaves Lansdown found that many respondents are reluctant to do so, because of sentimental attachment to their home. “Moving to a smaller property can look like a sensible choice, the children have left home and you have spare room,” said Helen Morrissey, senior pensions and retirement analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown. “But the emotional pull of leaving the home you’ve raised a family in can prove too much.” City A.M.

New Development Brings a Bit of Venice to Dubai

Damac Properties has announced that it will add two new sections—Malta and Venice—to its Mediterranean-themed, water-centric Lagoons in Dubai. The development will feature luxury villas and townhouses set around white-sand beaches and large bodies of water. While the newly announced Malta section will include child-focused amenities including a Building Blocks pavilion, where young residents can build their own giant houses, and a virtual reality park, the Venice region will more closely resemble its namesake, with gondola rides, arching bridges over canals and waterside cafes. Developers Expect Condo Prices to Escalate in Singapore

The latest Real Estate Sentiment Index published by the National University of Singapore Real Estate found that 71% of Singapore developers expect the prices of new units to be “moderately or substantially higher” over the next six months—up from 60% in the Q4 2021 survey. Sixty-five percent of developers also indicated they expected there to be moderately more units launched over the next six months, while an overwhelming 95% of senior real estate executives identified rising construction costs and rising inflation and interest rates as the top two risk factors for the industry over the next half of the year. Former Cubs Pitcher Jon Lester Splits Chicago-Area Home in Effort to Sell Property

Former Cubs pitcher, and multiple World Series winner, Jon Lester has split his $3.85 million home in Chicago’s Graceland West neighborhood from the $1.15 million extra-wide side lot, after a year of trying to sell both properties as one package for $6 million. Mr. Lester and his wife purchased the 7,000-square-foot, five-bedroom home in 2015 for about $3.8 million and the lot in 2017 for $1.35 million.
